Scorpions may be yellow, blue, reddish brown or black and can grow to a length of about two inches. Scorpions are found throughout the U.S., but the most dangerous species of this pest is native to and common in southwest Arizona. The sting of a scorpion can cause a serious allergic reaction and can even be fatal to small children and the elderly. If you are stung by a scorpion, seek immediate medical attention.

Scorpions are predators that feed primarily on insects. They crawl into buildings through cracks or holes in search of food or shelter. Once inside, they may lurk in clothing, shoes or a bed and will sting when threatened or stepped on. All scorpions glow green under black light, so a portable black light can be used to find where scorpions are entering and harboring.
